With 14,000 students, Gießen’s second institute of higher education, the Technische Hochschule of Mittelhessen, is the largest of its kind in the state. The calm Lahn riverside lends itself perfectly for biking tours, jogging, or Inline-Skating, while the river itself is regularly frequented by canoeists.
The Schwanenteich is a beautiful small lake close to the meadows along the Lahn. Of course, being a university town, Gießen also offers not a few places to enjoy a drink or good dinner.
CULTURE
One of the city’s highlights is the Mathematikum, an interactive museum of mathematics that testifies to the great role that the university and its science programs have and continue to play in Gießen.
The Stadttheater Gießen is another highlight not to be missed, offering a great variety of dramatic and musical performances. In addition, the Kunsthalle Gießen hosts changing exhibitions of international contemporary art.
